Lei Jun: Xiaomi Could Be Number One In Smartphones


I didn’t know until I saw those tweets that Lei Jun has a (mostly unused) Twitter account.
What Lei Jun says could come true. But I wonder about the underlying factors that led to the MiPad, which violated all of the principles that Xiaomi used to rise to success. Whatever created the MiPad could grow to derail all of Xiaomi. Sometimes grand ambitions are not the best things to have …

Well, that’s rather clever. Alibaba’s Jack Ma is seeing just what it means to have a post-IPO company.
By the time Xiaomi does an IPO, it won’t really need the money. It will be more of a marketing move: “Look. Now we’re World Class.”

Some Xiaomi outlet sales aren’t yet factored into that. The MiBand, for example, sold over 100,000.
The sale of 22,000 MiPad isn’t impressive up against Apple and other global brands outside of China. Since the MiPad topped the tablet sales chart on 11/11, think of how few everyone else sold!
